Descendants of the paramount chief Mokomoko are seeking redress to return his chiefly status.

Te Waiariki MP Te Ururoa Flavell is part of this process after listening to submissions held at Waiaua Marae in Opotiki Te Whakatohea territory.

Te Ururoa Flavell said a bill in parliament has been passed to the next stage to allow the Government of today to redress the wrong of yesteryear.

Te Ururoa Flavell said the bill should be passed by the end of the year. The bill is  the Mokomoko Restoration of Character, Mana and Reputation Bill.
