NEW HANG OUT FOR WHAKATANE YOUTH
One of the things that our youth have been crying out for, as identified in the Whakatāne Youth Action Plan, is a place for our young people to hang out. The “Dub Youth Hub” is about to open as a response to this demand.
The Hub will be open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 3.30 – 6.30pm, and on Saturdays from 12 – 7pm. Jason Boynton will be running the Hub. He and the team are “accepting donations of food, baking, drinks, microwaves and anthing that would help the W Youth Hub to be a fun and safe place for youth”. Local cafes or other food related businesses might be interested in contributing their left-over baked goods at the end of the day.
This youth initiative has been set up by Darryl Pye, Manager of the Tumanako Hou Trust, and has been generously supported by our local District Health Board through the Social Sector Trials. The Whakatāne District Council has also helped to update the bathroom and kitchen.
You’ll find he Dub Youth Hub, next to the Rock Pit gym on Canning Place in Whakatāne. If you have any enquiries, or donations, you can contact Darryl at Tumanako Hou Trust, or Jamie on 027 926 4175.
