On Saturday 7th March Whakatane’s first zero waste market will be held.

The Waste Zero Re-Market is organised by our local volunteer waste group, Waste Zero Whakatane, in conjunction with Envirohub’s Sustainable Backyards Month and Liam and Hannah from The Rubbish Trip.

Visitors will be able to browse local zero waste producers and suppliers, find out more about how to reduce waste in their household, and take part in workshops.

The highlight of the market is expected to be the ‘Resoursonance’ workshop that will be led by Liam Prince, one of the inspiring duo behind The Rubbish Trip (www.therubbishtrip.co.nz).  This workshop, which will lead participants through the process of making and playing musical instruments made from recovered and recycled materials, has only been held three times before and never outside a major centre.

The market will be open between 11am and 3pm in the foyer of the Whakatane War Memorial Hall.  Attendance is free, but please RSVP for the workshops. It’s not too late for your business or group to have a presence at the market too.

Visit the Waste Zero Whakatane page for event details and to contact the group.

Head to their whārangi Pukamata to stay updated.
