Last week Whakatane hosted Toka Tu, a mass haka organised by keen locals, in solidarity of those fighting for their indigenous rights over the Standing Rock reservation in the USA which is currently being threatened my a major oil company.

The haka was performed at the Heads Wairaka with a solid turn out of locals all vouching to support the kaupapa and the rights of those in Standing Rock.

TumekeFM caught up with both the organisers of the event and other locals to ask why they showed up. Watch below:
