The Ngarimu VC & 28th Maori Battalion Memorial Scholarships highlight and remember those soldiers who fought in wars overseas and did not return as well as those soldiers who returned to their birth places.

The scholarships are to encourage students to high academic pursuits in Aotearoa Universities and perhaps overseas.

Te Ururoa Flavell said the scholarships started in the time of war by the families of Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa Ngarimu when they allowed the invested funds to increase.

As well as acknowledging the funds as blood money to remember those who died in their endeavors to fight the enemy to a standstill and retain him to his own country.
