Accolades and acknowledgements were the order of the day from the Opotiki community for Maurie Abraham last Friday.

Principal of the Opotiki college for thirty years, Maurie will be leaving Te Whakatohea boundaries for Ngati Whatua in Hobsonville Auckland to assist in developing a new school there. One person who has great admiration for Maurie is Ana Meka whom he chose to be headgirl in 2003 under a new initiative to benefit the school.

Alex Maehe will replace Maurie as the new Principal of Opotiki College when he departs.
