The Kawerau Norske Skog number two paper machine has been permanently closed and over the next 3-4 months redundancies will be actioned accordingly.

Union delegate Tane Phillips said some of the ex-employees are making plans to shift their families to Australia to find wealth and health because there is no longer work available in Kawerau.

Some of the workers who may have trouble finding work are those in the 50 plus age group. Norske Skog has closed the plant because there is no longer in demand for their product as many businesses are now digital.
