A message from the Chief Executive of Te Runanga o Ngati Awa – Enid Leighton

He mihi maioha kia koutou Nga Hapu o Ngati Awa me te whanau whanui I tae mai ki te tautoko nga ra e rua whakahirahira mo to tatou Iwi kia ora Rawa koutou katoa.

Te Runanga o Ngati Awa filled with enormous pride and gratitude acknowledge the 22 hapu of Ngati Awa. We specifically congratulate those hapu who gathered to celebrate our Ngati Awatanga, reo Ngati Awa through kapahaka this past weekend. It is through this collective strength and effort that our identity as Ngati Awa will grow stronger. Congratulations to Ngai Taiwhakaea the overall winner of the whakataetae. Close second Ngati Pukeko and third Nga Maihi. From all your performances we can see our kapahaka presence in the region growing from strength to strength. There are many people who are responsible for making this not only a successful event but the beginning of a cultural revolution for Ngati Awa. The Runanga thanks you all including; the sponsors, stall holders, Kidzone teams, kaumatua teams, set up and shut down crews, security, St Johns, marketing and administration team, Mataatua Te Manuka Tutahi management team and staff, catering staff, Kaiwhakawa, collators, volunteers and ahi ka roopu representatives. Most importantly the hapu performers and their support crews who made this possible. Tena koutou Nga uri o Nga Hapu o Ngati Awa tena koutou tena koutou katoa.
