Nga Kapa Haka Kura Tuarua o Aotearoa is being hosted in Napier this week, and being run between 26-29th July. The kapahaka event showcases many of the talented rangatahi across the motu.
We asked one student from Edgecumbe college, Kitana Ranapia to tell us what some of her favorite performances were from the event.
“Te Wharekura o Ruatoki was a favourite,” she says. “My favourite bit was when my cousin came onto the stage in their opening. She sounded really cool, and I was excited to see a familiar face on the big screen”.
“I’ve been watching the last few days and there’s been heaps of cool groups,” says Kitana.
“I’ve performed in two Pakeke groups, Nga Maihi and Tuhoe ki Kawerau at many kapahaka events, including Mataatua Regionals, Ahurei and last year at Ngati Awa Te Toki as well – those events were nerve-racking but I was excited and it was super cool to be on stage. I’ve even been to Rarotonga with Nga Maihi to represent our kaumatua.”
