The Murupara Primary school has now been named Murupara Area school.

The new school will open next month with a expected roll of 350 children attending from year one to year thirteen.

This is a new project since Education Minister Hekia Parata closed the Rangitahi College and the Murupara Primary School. The Murupara Area School replaces both schools.

There were initial elections held to chose a name for the new school, counted votes were 103 for Murupara Area School, 39 votes for Murupara School and Collegiate, 27 votes for Te Awatea o Murupara and 25 votes for Te Pa Harakeke o Murupara.
