The BOP Public Health Service has issued a health warning for Lake Okaro near Rainbow Mountain 25 kms South of Rotorua.

Medical Health Officer Dr Neill de Wet said people should avoid Lake Okaro and/or not allow any body contact with the water in case of the toxic blue green algae.

If people ignore the warnings and immerse in Lake Okaro symptoms will show as asthma, skin rash, vomiting, diarrhoea, tingling and numbness.
