Dr Hohepa Mason received an award Nga Tohu a Taa Kingi Ihaka from Te Waka Toi-Creative NZ in recognition of this Ngati Awa scholar and his huge contribution to maintain the customs and traditions of his hapu and people.
Te Waka Toi-Creative NZ acknowledged the work of Dr Hohepa Mason for all his years to ensure the wellbeing of his people of Ngati Awa and he too being a recipient of a QSO and PhD Honoris Causa-he is also the genealogy expert and other aspects regarding his Ngati awa people.
